CBT About Me CBT

Whilst everyone who is accredited by the BABCP for CBT must adhere to strict codes of clinical and ethical practice, we are all a bit different in real life.

Although we are aware of which interventions offer the quickest benefits for our patients, we all develop different styles of delivering therapy. I tend to be quite informal and relaxed (and even to have a few laughs along the way) as that’s what I’m like outside of work.

Originally from Liverpool, my accent is now diluted after nearly 25 years in Hampshire. I am married, with 3 children at school, work full time in the NHS and have recently started a small private practice.

Experience

My core professional background is in Mental Health Nursing, and I am registered with the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).  This organisation has statutory obligations to protect the public by ensuring that nurses and midwives provide high standards of care to their patients and clients (www.nmc-uk.org)

I am also accredited with the lead organisation for CBT in the UK, the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP)

For 24 years I have worked within the NHS with people experiencing mental health problems.  This has included in-patient and community based settings.  I am currently employed full time as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist for Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust (www.berkshirehealthcare.nhs.uk), working predominately with individuals suffering from moderate to severe depression and anxiety.  Prior to this, I spent 10 years working within the Psychological Medicine Department at Frimley Park Hospital where I delivered group and individual CBT treatments for patients with physical health problems.
